Pregnancy care & labour preparation

Pregnancy care and labour preparation

Apart from the arrival of a healthy baby, nothing makes us happier than the announcement that a client has successfully fallen pregnant.

Once this joyful news comes to you, we continue to support you with treatments to secure pregnancy and help you through this incredibly exciting but sometimes anxious time.

We also offer natural, drug-free treatments for many symptoms associated with pregnancy, such as nausea, constipation, back pain and fluid retention. We usually treat you at our West End centre each week for the first 12 weeks of your pregnancy and then at a frequency that suits you or is needed.

As labour gets closer, we focus on optimal wellbeing and begin to prepare you for the healthy labour you desire. Appropriate acupuncture can help prompt the ligaments around your pelvis to relax for labour and gently encourage your baby into the optimal position for birth.

Studies have shown that weekly acupuncture treatment in the final weeks of pregnancy can also have many benefits, including reduced labour times and less need for medical intervention during labour. As well as the acupuncture unique to you, we like to use the points suggested by this research each week from 36 weeks onwards.

As any preparation is beneficial, we encourage expectant mothers to come for these four treatments even if they’ve had no other acupuncture at all. We also encourage the primary birth support person to attend a session and learn some techniques to assist with birth progression and pain management during labour.

Ultimately, we aim to help you and your birth partner feel calm, empowered and ready to bring your baby into the world.

Finally, should the need arise, some acupuncture treatments can also be effective in inducing labour naturally. Please feel free to enquire about whether this would be appropriate for you.
