Maya Abdominal Therapy ™ as shared by Dr Rosita Arvigo draws on ancient Maya wisdom combined with modern interpretation of anatomy and physiology.
Abdominal Therapy techniques of belly massage and pelvic/womb steams can be invaluable support for women’s health and well-being during the ebb and flow of our life cycles, inner seasons and transitions including:
Abdominal massage therapy is an external massage with a focus on the torso that increases circulation and vital flow of blood, lymph, energy/qi and information to the belly and pelvis, optimises organ functioning and relieves diaphragmatic tension to support good breathing habits.
Abdominal massage therapy can also play a role in supporting gut health by stimulating the rest and digest’ relaxation response, promoting improved digestion and communication of information between the brain and gut (the ‘second brain’ or ‘belly brain’).
Abdominal massage – what to expect
A deeply nourishing and nurturing external body massage combining the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy, shiatsu bodywork (including foot massage), deep listening skills with a focus on the abdomen, pelvis, back and sacrum.
Tension and stress dissolving, belly gurgles, capacity for soft deeper breaths to greet the belly and pelvic floor, subtle movement of abdominal fascia (connective tissue), smiling organs, a softening, spaciousness to observe, to feel, to connect with and befriend aspects of the body that may elicit judgement…to welcome oneself back home.
You also get to learn a short self-care abdominal massage for regular belly loving sessions at home.
**Abdominal massage is not performed during menstruation or up to 5 days prior to menses, if using an IUD, during the first trimester of pregnancy or just after abdominal surgery.
Pelvic /Womb Steaming or Yoni steaming is a powerful ancient self-care practice used by women around the world for its healing effects on the body, mind, spirit connection.
The process involves sitting over a blend of steam and herbal preparations, bringing healing warmth to the womb and to the pelvic floor, increasing circulation and energy flow to the pelvis while also restoring moisture and integrity to the vaginal tissues.
This wonderfully relaxing practice can help to support fertility (including supported technologies – IVF) reproductive health, balancing irregular cycles, reduce menstrual pain, journeying through and after menopause and post hysterectomy.
(A love note from Lisa: I have personally found womb steaming also supportive in releasing energetic trauma held in my womb space/pelvis and offers an opportunity to turn inwards and (re) connect…with her, with her wisdom and nuanced communication and the feeling of coming home).
Pelvic/womb steaming is not recommended while menstruating, during pregnancy, active infections, if using an IUD, or after ovulation if you are trying to conceive.
